Safety and privacy
How addresses, meeting spots and ratings work on Rently — and what stays private.
Your default address is always private. We only use it to show you accurate distances to rentals and stores near you — it never appears on a map, and other people never see it. When you place an order, you'll choose a separate pickup or delivery spot.
The same goes for every address you save: addresses in your address book stay private, and one is only shared if you choose it for an order's delivery. We tell you who sees an address at the moment you choose it. You'll see it right there on the screen, not in fine print.
A meeting spot is where a rental changes hands. Public meeting spots — like a shopping centre car park or a petrol station — show their full address to both parties, so everyone knows exactly where to meet. They're busy, easy to find, and keep your home address out of the handover entirely.
You can set up your meeting spots from your account, and if you know a good public spot that isn't on the map yet, you can suggest it for everyone.
After a completed handover at a public meeting spot, both people can rate their experience there — things like lighting, visibility and how easy parking was. Spot ratings are rolling out across Rently, and they only ever show as combined results.
Your name is never shown with your rating. Other people only ever see totals and averages, like the overall rating and how many people have rated a spot. Anything you write in a comment goes to the Rently team only, and you can remove a rating within 24 hours of sending it. If you ever delete your account, the factual rating stays so the community keeps its value. Your name and account details are fully removed from it.
When you pick a meeting spot, the closest options matter, but so does what the community has experienced. Our ordering blends three things: how close a spot is to you, its community standing, and how much real data backs that standing. A few promises hold no matter what:
With courier delivery your home address stays safe — the courier needs it to deliver, but the store only ever sees your suburb and city. It works the same way for stores: they can send with couriers without renters ever seeing their address.
If you'd prefer extra privacy, a Pudo locker keeps your home address out of the picture entirely — the parcel travels through the locker, and nobody gets your home address.
Our frequently asked questions cover meeting spots and privacy too, and the Rently Helper in the corner of (nearly) every page can answer questions like "where does my address go?" whenever they come up. For anything else, our support team is happy to help.
